So what is Microblading exactly? Well, Microblading or Eyebrow tattoos, is a form of permanent makeup where an artist hand-draws hair strokes onto your brow (using microneedles) to help re-shape and/or thicken the appearance of your brows. The popularity in the beauty industry over the last couple of years has definitely grown, so you may have heard of it before.

This is basically a form of cosmetic tattoo that creates a brand new look for your brows. The biggest advantage of Microbladed eyebrows is you no longer will have to worry about them as part of your morning routine (they will look perfect every day!). In this article, we will break down what to expect in the initial appointment, and how to maintain your new brows once it’s complete.

How long is the Microblading Procedure?

The initial procedure is split into 2 appointments, which are usually 4-6 weeks apart to allow for the healing process to complete. The initial microblading session will take from 2.5-3 HRS, and your second visit takes about 1.5-2 HRS. Investing an hour or two of your time can make you beautiful for years to come.

How long does Microblading Take to Heal?

How long is the Microblading Healing Process?

The Microblading healing process takes 10 to 14 days to heal as the pigment settles into its shape. During this process, your skin will be sensitive. The skin on your eyebrows will eventually scab and flake off. The area will be red and tender to the touch at first.

Healthline.com mentions that “While your new brow shape is healing, don’t pick or scratch the area. This introduces germs that could become trapped under your skin and cause an infection. Picking at flakes may also cause the color of your brows to fade more quickly.”

During your healing period, you should try to avoid any form of moisture near your eyebrows. Getting them wet during this period of time is a major no-no. This includes excessive sweating from working out and getting them wet in the shower, from swimming in a pool, or directly washing your face.

What Can I expect during my Healing Time?

Not everyone heals the same way, so it is important to know that it’s hard to completely express what you might expert during these initial weeks. Some clients can heal with very minimal scabbing, while others might have more severe scabs. PMUhub.com says that clients may need as long as 6 weeks or more to cure. Skin type is typically the biggest factor when it comes to your recovery time.

Is Microblading Painful?

Everyone experiences pain differently from person to person, and it’s no different when it comes to the pain level associated with the microblading procedure. Depending on the client, the feeling of being microbladed can resemble that of light cat scratches, to that of a light sunburn. The needle used is very similar to that of a regular tattoo, but we feel it’s less invasive.

Before the procedure begins, to desensitize the area, your expert brow technician will use a topical anesthetic numbing cream. Each permanent makeup artist usually has its own topical anesthetic preferences, but typically they would contain any of the following ingredients (benzocaine, lidocaine, prilocaine, epinephrine, and tetracaine.

After its done, you will likely deal with some redness and tenderness, but nothing that isn’t manageable. We recommend that you do not take Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or Fish Oil Supplements 1 week prior to or after your procedure. Tylenol is safe to take to help with any pain you might be experiencing.

Is a Microblading touch up necessary?

Browstyling.com says that ” Most importantly, your touch up session is when we refine your brows to ensure it looks perfect and retains the color for the whole year!”.

We highly recommend that a follow-up session is setup after your first procedure. Typically, after 4-6 weeks, the next session would be set up. Everyone does heal in different ways, so the outcome will vary. The biggest adjustments that we typically focus on in the touch up will be brow pigment color fills, adding additional strokes, and brow thickness

How do you Extend the Life Microbladed Eyebrows?

While microbladed brows are designed to only last a few years, there are things you can do to extend their life as much as possible. According to Byrdie.com “If you’ve successfully made it through the healing process, the rest is easy. Protect your new brows from sun exposure by applying SPF daily and avoid using harsh exfoliants, as well as chemical or laser treatments in the area to prevent further fading.”

Is Microblading Worth it?

Because it helps to give you extra time in your day, the Microblading cosmetic treatment is a very worthwhile investment. Who doesn’t like extra minutes of sleep every morning! Make sure you check the experience level of the Microblading specialist. This is much more important than finding the cheapest price in the city.
